KID Museum invites applications from cultural organizations to feature your home country and cultural traditions at the 2016 World of Montgomery Festival.

The World of Montgomery Festival is a free family festival that celebrates the diverse cultures of our region. The event is organized by Montgomery County, the Fund for Montgomery, KID Museum and Montgomery College.

A limited number of booths are available for cultural organizations interested in participating in this year’s festival. Organizations are invited to submit a proposal that details plans for an interactive exhibit that will be engaging to a family audience. Applications are due by August 22, 2016 and selected organizations will be notified by September 1, 2016.

To apply:

To host an exhibit representing a specific culture

The World of Montgomery Festival cultural exhibits are interactive, family-friendly experiences designed to provide an overview of your culture through exhibits of decor, artifacts, displays of daily life, traditional arts and craft demonstrations, tent performances, and hands-on experiences for children. A limited number of tents are available by application only. Please provide a thorough description of how you plan to represent your home country and cultural traditions, with detail about prior experience relevant to the festival. This year’s festival will focus on the theme of “home” and traditions for welcoming people. Please describe how you would integrate this theme in your proposal. Accepted organizations will receive a minimum of a 10’ x 10’ tent space and will be eligible for a small stipend to underwrite the costs of decor and activities. Applications are due by August 22, 2016 and selected organizations will be notified by September 1, 2016.

About the festival:

The World of Montgomery Festival celebrates and displays the rich cultural heritages of the DC Area. The festival will be held at Montgomery College – Rockville (51 Mannakee Street) on Sunday, October 16th, 2016, from noon to 4:00pm. This free family-friendly event explores cultural diversity with international music, food, dance, exhibits and hands-on arts and crafts activities.

The festival features a Global Kitchen with chefs providing cooking demonstrations; a Parade of Cultures that circles the festival grounds with dancers, dragons and drummers; and a variety of country tents in the international village where children and adults can make their own traditional crafts, and enjoy music, performances and games. There will be two entertainment stages, service tents, ethnic food vendors, and fun activities for the whole family.
